1st session: Audio & VIDEO

  • Overview of famous sequencers
  • A brief preview of Ableton and a description of Lives' abilities
  • Live basic aspects and general concept
  • Setting up and optimising Live preferences (Digital audio basic aspects review)
  • Explanation of the session view
  • Live browser:Find, Preview and Import audio samples
  • Audio clip manipulation and loop quantization
  • In depth time stretch (warp) modes
  • Modulating loops with clip preferences
  • Creating loop sequences with follow actions and scenes
  • Audio plug-ins explanation with creativity aspects (Auto Filter, Beat Repeat, Compressor 2, Dynamic Tube, EQ-8, Grain-Filter Delays, Saturator, Utility)
  • Automation basics: working with clip envelopes
  • Setting up monitor mixes for a musician using Send and Return tracks
  • Audio recording and quantization of the recorded material
  • Mixing and routing, using insert and aux effects-creating audio subgroups
  • Freezing tracks
  • Working with video
  • Saving channel strip settings within a clip
  • File management: File Manager capabilities, Saving and Creating Live packs

 

2nd session: MIDI

  • Brief review of 1st session's key topics
  • Setting up Lives' MIDI preferences
  • Impulse: Creating beats using its own effects and filters, routing its outputs into multiple tracks
  • Recording and processing MIDI clips (MIDI basic aspects review)
  • Using MIDI effects and VST/AU Instruments
  • Using and setting external controllers
  • Advanced usage of MIDI clip envelopes for external hardware control: Sending program change messages, cc, creating multitimbral sounds in an external synth
  • Syncronizing Live to external devices and vice versa
  • Sampler: multilayering sampling and "hypermodulation" capabilities
  • In depth usage of Instrument and MIDI effects rack
  • Sequencing in the arrangement window: Clip placement, Editing commands and automation
  • Saving MIDI track settings within a MIDI clip
  • Exporting and Importing MIDI clips
  • Rewire Master and Slave modes
  • Controlling Rewire slave devices via Live's MIDI tracks
  • Recording Rewire inputs into Live
